Scott City volleyball sweeps home triangular

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It’s been a long and busy week for the Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team, as they wrapped up their week with a home triangular against Kinsley and Southwestern Heights on Saturday. The Lady Beavers were able to persevere and pick up a pair of wins, defeating Southwestern Heights 25-10, 25-22 and Kinsley 25-10, 25-11. Southwestern Heights would defeat Kinsley in the other match 25-19, 25-20.

To begin the day, the Lady Beavers would take on Southwestern Heights. Scott City led early 4-1, and after their lead was cut 4-3 in the first set, the Lady Beavers went on a big run to put the opening set in doubt. A 15-0 run put them up 19-3. Trailing 21-4, the Lady Mustangs did score six of the next seven to get to 21-10, but Scott City closed the door with four straight to win 25-10. In the second set, the Lady Beavers were able to open up an 8-3 lead, before Southwestern Heights scored six of the next eight points to get to within 10-9. Scott City took a 14-9 lead, when the Lady Mustangs went on an 11-4 run to lead 20-18. The Lady Beavers would regroup, as they went on a 7-2 run to end the match to win 25-22. Ella Rumford had five kills, and Kennedy Holstein had three serving aces.

In their final match of the day, Scott City faced Kinsley. The Lady Coyotes led early 3-2 in the first set. Scott City would come back and lead, but weren’t able to put away Kinsley right away. After the Lady Coyotes pulled to within 9-8, Scott City scored seven of eight to lead 16-9, and then closed out with nine straight to 25-10. The run would be a 16-2 run to close the opening set. In the second set, the Lady Beavers would be tied early on at two, but gradually pulled away with runs of four, five and ended the match with five straight to cruise to a 25-11 win. Ella Rumford had five kills, and Kennedy Holstein had four kills and four service aces. Scott City had nine aces in the match.

Scott City is now 12-8 on the year, as they will host a GWAC Triangular on Thursday.
