Scott City volleyball sweeps home triangular

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City knew they would be in a battle with Goodland and Lakin on Tuesday in Scott City. The Cowgirls and Lady Broncs would come in with improved teams to face the Lady Beaver in a triangular.

After the night was done, Scott City would go 2-0 on the day, defeating Goodland 25-8, 26-24, and would knock off Lakin in three sets 25-21, 23-25, 25-13.

Lakin would defeat Goodland in the other match 23-25, 25-16, 25-15.

In the first match of the day, the Lady Beavers would get out to a big start, and never be pushed. They would jump out to an 8-2 lead over the Cowgirls, and would never let Goodland score back to back points in the entire set. Scott City would have runs of 5-1, 5-1 and closed out the set on an 8-1 run to take the opening set 25-8. Goodland jumped out early in the second, leading 4-1, and would lead a majority of the set. The Lady Beavers would use a 5-1 run to take their first lead of the set at 16-15. It would be the Cowgirls who responded with a 4-1 run to take a 19-17 lead, and would push their lead to 24-20, and had four set points. Scott City would turn the table at the end by closing the set and match with six straight to take the second set 26-24.

After a lengthy break, the Lady Beavers would face the Lady Broncs of Lakin, who had a three-set victory over Goodland. For a majority of the match, it would be tightly-contested, as Lakin would push out to an ealry 7-4 lead, only to see Soctt City rally for 11-3 run to go up 15-10. The Lady Broncs would eventually rally to tie the set up at 19, only to see the Lady Beavers close the set with a 6-2 run to win 25-21. In the second set, Scott City took an early lead of 6-2. Lakin would make a big rally to take an 8-7 lead. Following a 13-11 Lady Beaver lead midway through the second, the Lady Broncs used a 6-1 run to go up 17-14. Trailing 24-20, Scott City almost duplicated a similar comeback, but fell short 25-23. The final set of the match saw Scott City jump out to a 7-3 lead, and never look back. The closest Lakin would get was at 16-13. It would be a Lady Beaver run of 9-0 to close out the third set and match to win 25-13. 

Scott City is 10-2 on the year, and will head to Colby for a triangular with Colby and Hoxie on Thursday. Lakin is now 8-3, and will be at the Stanton County triangular next Tuesday with Stanton County and Wichita County. Goodland is 2-4, and will host a triangular on Thursday.
