Scott City volleyball drops two in Cimarron
Cimarron, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In their final competition before regional play, the Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team made the trip to Cimarron on Tuesday to face the Bluejays and the Meade Lady Buffaloes. It would be a tough day of volleyball, as the Lady Beavers dropped both matches, falling to Cimarron 25-15, 25-17, and to Meade 25-22, 26-24. Meade would defeat Cimarron in the final match of the triangular 25-15, 25-22.
Against Cimarron, the Lady Bluejays broke a two-all tie with six straight, and never looked back in the opening set. The closest Scott City would get was at 10-6, as Cimarron built up a lead of 24-12, before taking the opening set 25-15. Set two was close early on, but the Lady Beavers could not get any momentum. An 8-1 Bluejay run put them up 12-6 midway through the second. Scott City got to within 15-10, and 19-14, but Cimarron would close with six of the final nine points of the match to win 25-17. Peyton Gentry had four kills, while Avery Lewis added three in the match.
In a quick turnaround against Meade, the Lady Buffaloes jumped out to a 13-6 lead, only to see Scott City rally, and take their first lead of the opening set 18-17. Trailing 21-20, Meade was able to close with five of the final six points of the set to win 25-22. Both teams would go back and forth in the second set. However, the Lady Beavers built leads of 17-13 and 19-16, only to see the Lady Buffaloes rally, and tie the set at 19. Scott City had set point at 24-22, but Meade was able to score the final four points to take the set and match 26-24. Peyton Gentry and Avery Lewis had six kills apiece, and Kinleigh Wren added four kills.
Scott City is 16-19 on the year, and will be in the Norton regional on Monday. They are the 11 seed, and will face sixth seed Lakin. third seed Norton and 14th seed Larned. The top two teams in the regional will advance to sub-state play on Saturday,October 26.
