Scott City visits Ulysses in GWAC opener
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A rivalry will be renewed tonight in Ulysses, as the Scott City Beavers travel to Ulysses to face the Tigers in the Great West Activities Conference Opener for both teams.
On the girls side, Scott City comes in with confidence, after defeating the Denver South Lady Rebels 54-39 last Saturday in the final day of the Clarion Inn Southwest Classic. Bailey Nickel led the charge for the 1-2 Lady Beavers with a career-best 34 points. Ulysses enters tonight’s game with a 1-3 record, after dropping the fifth place game of the Hugoton Blue & Red Classic to Guymon, OK on Saturday 60-36, and finished 1-2 in the tournament. Carolina Gallegos was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Lady Tigers, who’s lone win came against Southwestern Heights.
For the boys, both teams enter with win streaks. Scott City has won two straight, after their 68-58 win over Denver South last Saturday in the Southwest Classic. Trey O’Neil led them with 29 points, a career high, while Brett Meyer added 17. The Beavers check in at No. 2 in the KBCA rankings this week in Class 4A, Division II. Ulysses has won three straight, and claimed the Hugoton Blue & Red Classic title with a 61-58 win over the host school Hugoton last Saturday night. Tregg Rodriguez finished with 24 points and was named the tournament’s MVP. Nathan Medina was also named to the All-Tournament team.
