Scott City visits Andale in battle of unbeatens

Andale, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–When the season began, you had a good feeling that Scott City and Andale would match up in the playoffs. That time has come. Two teams who are only meeting for the second time ever meet up in Andale, as the Indians and the Beavers match up in a battle of 10-0 teams in a 7 pm start.

Scott City got past Beloit for the second time this season last week with a 34-7 win over the Trojans at Darner Field. The Beavers led 13-0 after the first quarter and 27-0 at the break. They would finish with 334 yards of offense, with 290 on the ground. Wyatt Hayes tied a career high with 5 rushing touchdowns, rushing for 179 yards. Scott City would force three turnovers and limit Beloit to 219 yards of offense, with 142 coming on the ground. This year, the Beavers have outscored opponents by an average of 43-6, with five shoutouts. They also gain an average of nearly 400 yards of offense, and have limited opponents to 150 yards per game. Hayes leads the ground attack with 30 touchdowns and nearly 1,600 yards rushing, while Marshall Faurot has six receiving touchdowns and close to 500 receiving yards and Parker Gooden has thrown for over 800 yards with eight touchdowns. Hunter Yager has three interceptions on the defensive side of the ball and Parker Vulgamore leads the team in tackles.

Andale has also been dominant in their games this year. The Indians defeated Chapman 66-22 last Friday night at home. They led 14-8 after the first quarter and 38-8 at the break, before outscoring the Irish 28-14 in the second half. The Indians rushed for over 390 yards of offense last week, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal. This year, Andale has six shutouts, and have beaten opponents by an average of 50-6. The Indians do not have a back that’s rushed for over 1,000 yards or have a back that has rushed for over 635 yards. They are led by senior quarterback Ethan Baalmann. Last year, Andale fell to Bishop Miege in the Class 4A, DI State Championship game, and like Scott City, have lost just once over the last two season.

This is the first meeting since November 9, 1991, when Scott City defeated Andale 9-6 in double overtime in Andale in the Bi-District round of the Class 4A playoffs. Both teams have several dads that played in that game, and Andale defenensive coordinator Tim Fairchild was the defensive coordinator for the Indians that season. The teams have combined for seven state championships and 94 playoff wins.
