Scott City, Ulysses split doubleheader

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–With the weather finally cooperating, Scott City and Ulysses were able to get their doubleheader in on Thursday. This time, it was moved to a neutral site, and played at Clint Lightner Field in Garden City. The Tigers built an 8-0 lead in the first game to take a 9-5 win, while the Beavers took the second game 15-0 in five innings.

Ulysses 9, Scott City 5, Game 1
Ulysses batted around in the first inning, and plated four runs to take a 4-0 lead. They would bat around and strand a pair in that inning. The Tigers would add four more runs in the third inning to lead 8-0. Scott City would finally get on the board in the fourth inning, taking advantage of two Ulysses errors to cut the deficit to 8-2. In the bottom of the fourth inning, a 4-6-3 double play would score a run for the Tigers to extend their lead to 9-2. The Beavers would make one final push in the fifth inning, taking advantage of additional Ulysses errors and wild pitching. Julius Sifuentes would come in and retire eight of the final 11 Scott City batters, as the Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak. Victor Perez surrendered two runs in four innings pitched, and Alec Feldman pitched 1/3 of an inning to pick up the win. Perez had two hits and scored two runs, while Sifuentes had a hit and drove in two runs. Justin Faurot took the loss for the Beavers, allowing four runs on just two hits in 1/3 of an inning pitched. Kevin Aguilera drove in a run on a walk for Scott City, who was outhit 9-3 in game one. The Beavers committed only two errors, but left eight base runners aboard.

Scott City 15, Ulysses 0, Game 2 (5 Innings)
This game was over early on, as Scott City scored runs in four of the five innings at bat. The Beavers took a 2-0 lead after one inning, and 6-0 after two innings. Following a scoreless third inning, the Beavers took advantage of Ulysses errors and walks in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs to lead 13-0. Scott City tacked on two in the fifth to salvage a split. The only time Ulysses ever threatened to score was the fourth inning, when they walked three times and left two baserunners. Todd Morris went all five innings, and did not allow a hit. He walked five batters and struck out three batters. Kyle Cure, Chase Rumford and Aaron Hoopes each had two hits. Hoopes, Rumford each drove in a pair of runs in the second game. Ulysses starter Julius Sifuentes took the loss, going 1 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on six hits. The Tigers did not have a hit in the game, and committed seven errors in the second game. Scott City finished with eight hits.

After Thursday, Scott City is now 4-10 overall, 1-5 in GWAC play, and will play at Hugoton on Friday. Ulysses is 3-9 overall and 1-7 in league play, as they host Hugoton on Tuesday.
