Scott City, Ulysses qualify girls for state tennis

McPherson, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In the first fall regional competition, Scott City and Ulysses made their way to McPherson to compete in the Class 4A Regional Tournament in McPherson on Saturday.

Three area players qualified for state, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, October 18-19 in Topeka. Starting in Doubles, Scott City’s Finley Edwards/Kaylee Felker would place third, while in Singles Clarissa Sianuqui of Ulysses punched her ticket back to state with a fifth place finish. For Sianuqui, her win to qualify for state would be a win over her teammate at Singles in Nayeli Romero.

For Scott City, they would place third as a team. As mentioned, Finley Edwards/Kaylee Felker placed third. The second doubles team of Marisa Alvarado/Ella Frank would come up one match short of qualifying for state. In Singles, both Tayler Koehn and Shelby Massaglia would fall in their first round matches. Ulysses was in a three-way tie for forth place. Clarissa Sianuqui would take fifth, and also in Singles, Nayeli Romero would be one match away from qualifying for state. The Doubles team of Ximyna Rojas/Aralyn Flores would fall in the first round.

McPherson was the tournament champion, and Clay Center was second.
