Scott City turns to Kite to lead volleyball program

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–After the resignation of Megan Gentry in April for family reasons, Scott City knew they had to find someone quick, with a busy summer volleyball schedule coming up fast. Luckily for the Lady Beaver program, they didn’t have to look far. 

Keeping it in the Scott City family, 2009 SCHS graduate Shelby Kite accepted the offer and will be the new Lady Beaver volleyball coach for the 2017 fall season.

The two-time All-MSAA player for the Lady Beavers in the 2007 & 2008 seasons, and will enter her third season as a coach in the program. Kite played under Kyle Carroll during her high school career, and played at Pratt Community College for one year. She was the C-Team Coach in 2015, before moving up to coach the Junior Varsity in 2016. 

Scott City lost seven seniors off a team that finished with 27 wins in 2016. The summer schedule for them begins quickly, as summer weights begin Tuesday, May 30. Summer league begins for the Lady Beaver program in Hays on Monday’s in June, with a team camp in July. 

Kite’s head volleyball coaching position will become official during the June 12 USD 466 Board of Education meeting.
