Scott City travels to SE of Saline with district title on the line
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)—Tonight’s game with Scott City and Southeast of Saline will feature the lone unbeaten teams in Class 3A, District 6, as the Beavers make their longest road trip of the season to take on the Trojans at Steve Fritz Field in rural Gypsum.
Scott City played their most complete game to date last Friday night in a 28-0 win over the Colby Eagles at Darner Field. The Beavers would score 14 points in each of the second and fourth quarters to not only get their fifth win, but also clinch their 34th consecutive non-losing season. They had just under 350 yards of offense, while holding the Eagles to 232 in the win. Through seven games, Scott City is averaging 20 points and 300 yards of offense with a balanced attack, and has three shutouts on defense, giving up just 10 points and 200 yards of offense on the season.
Southeast of Saline moved to 6-0 on the season after a 53-8 rout of Smoky Valley last Friday night in Lindsborg. The Trojans raced out to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter, and 46-0 at the break. They were able to roll up 480 yards of offense, while limiting the Vikings to 96. This year, the Trojans are ranked between third and fifth in various polls in Class 3A, as they average 345 yards per game and 40 points, and are stout on defense, allowing opponents 173 yards per game and just nine points. Southeast of Saline moved up from Class 2A last year, and had one game cancelled recently, due to COVID-19.
Scott City won the lone meeting in the series in November of 2006, when they won 28-22 on the last play of the game in the Regional round of the Class 3A playoffs.
