Scott City travels to Russell in district play
Scott City, Kan. Wwesternkansasnews.com)—For the third time in the last four weeks, the Scott City football team will hit the road. This time, it will be their longest trip of the season, as they will face the Russell Broncos for their second district game of the season.
Scott City snapped a two-game losing streak with a 32-6 win over Goodland last Friday night at Darner Field. The Beavers enter tonight’s contest at 2-2 overall, and 1-0 in District 6 play. They scored on their first two drives of the game, both over 90 yards, and led 12-0 at the break and 18-0 after the third quarter. Scott City put up a season-high 401 yards in the win, including 350 on the ground. They allowed 154 yards of offense to the Cowboys, with 103 coming on the ground. Through four games, the Beavers average 19 points and just under 300 yards per game on offense, and have allowed 15 points and under 200 yards a game.
Russell is 0-4 on the year, and 0-1 in district play, after a 60-0 loss at home to Southeast of Saline last Friday night. The Trojans took the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and led 54-0 at the break, before winning 60-0. Russell was limited to 114 yards of offense, with 57 yards coming both on the ground and through the air, while they allowed 443 yards of offense, including 309 yards on the ground. This year, the Broncos average nine points and 180 yards a contest, while allowing 370 yards and 40 points a game. Two weeks ago, they trailed Norton 28-0 heading into the fourth quarter, before tying the game up late and falling in double overtime 34-28.
This is the fifth meeting in the series, with Scott City winning all four games. The Beavers shut out Russell 41-0 in Russell last year.
