Scott City travels to Riley County in Regional play

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)—It will be a first-time matchup tonight in the Class 3A Regional Playoff round, as Scott City makes the four-hour trip to Riley County to face the Falcons at Hal Prichard Stadium.

Scott City is 6-3 on the year, after a 24-14 win over the Concordia Panthers last Friday night to begin the playoffs. The Beavers scored on four consecutive drives in the second and third quarters, and took a 12-7 lead at the half, and led 24-7 after three quarters, before the Panthers put up a fourth quarter touchdown. Scott City was balanced on offense, going for 378 yards, with 205 coming through the air in the win, and allowed 270 yards in the game. Through nine games, the Beavers have averaged 19 points and around 300 yards of offense, while giving up 14 points and slightly over 200 yards per game.

Riley County pushed their record to 7-1 after a 55-16 win over Smoky Valley last Friday night at home. The Falcons led 24-0 midway through the first quarter, and 48-8 at the break, before settling for a 55-16 win. They were balanced, as they had 344 yards of offense, with 170 coming on the ground, and allowed 261 yards to the Vikings, with 258 coming on the ground. This is a high-octane offense from Riley County that has put up 41 points a contest and 382 yards per game, while giving up 13 points and 206 yards a game. They’ve outscored opponents in the first half 252-57.

This is the first time the schools have matched up, as Scott City is 1-1 against teams from the Mid-East League. The Beavers are in their 26th playoff run, and are 53-21 all time in the playoffs. Riley County is the playoffs for the 30th time, and are 27-29 all time.
