Track

Cheney, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City track & field team made their way to Cheney Friday for the annual Vernon Ferguson Invitational on what was one of the best days of the year for a meet. It would be an opportunity to see three teams who will be in the Holcomb Regional on May 21, as well as two additional schools in Class 3A.

It would be a three-school race for the team titles in both the boys and girls side. Starting with the girls, Garden Plain would win the meet with 159 points, followed by Cheney with 125 and Scott City finished with 91 points in third place. For the boys, Cheney had 105.5 points, while Garden Plain was in second with 98 and Scott City finished in third place with 91 points.

Two of the three relays for the Lady Beavers would take second, as the 4×400 and 4×800 would run season bests, and 10 placers would put up season bests. Kennedy Holstein was second in the 800M run, and was a leg on the second place relay teams, and Paige Vulgamore took another title in pole vault, while running her season-best in the 300M Hurdles. On the boys side, it was another big day for Isaac Tarango, who won the 100, and 200-meter dashes, and was on the winning 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays.
