Scott City Tennis wins Phillipsburg Quad, Beaver Volleyball picks up first win
Scott City, Kansas–(westernkansasnews.com)–Approaching their midway points of their seasons, the Scott City Lady Beaver tennis and volleyball teams took to the courts on Tuesday. For the tennis, it was a trip to Phillipsburg and the volleyball team made the trek to Lakin, as both teams were in quadrangulars.
The tennis team made their lengthy trip worth while. Scott City faced teams in both 3-2-1A and 4A, and faired quite well, taking the top spot as a team. Taking first in No. 1 Singles was Krystal Appel and in No. 2 Singles was Emma Price. Finishing second place were the No. 1 Doubles team of Bre Smull & Emily Buxton, and the No. 2 Doubles team consisting of Melanie & Christina Tilton. Scott City will host their own invitational on Monday.
That elusive first win of the season finally found the Lady Beaver volleyball squad in Lakin on Tuesday. While moving some players in the youthful lineup, and one veteran out of the lineup, Scott City went 1-2 against Goodland, Wichita County and Lakin. In their first match of the day, GWAC foe Goodland took down Scott City 25-23, 25-10, and bounced back to win their first match of the season with a two-set sweep of Wichita County 25-9, 25-12. Their final match of the night was against Lakin, who ended up going 3-0 on the day. The Lady Beavers fell in straight sets 25-16, 25-15. This week will continue to be a busy week for the Scott City spikers. Thursday is a quadrangular at Colby with Colby, Hoxie and Oakley, and the Liberal Invitational on Saturday.
