Scott City tennis 2nd at Phillipsburg; volleyball 1-2 in Leoti
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Tuesday saw the Scott City Beaver girls tennis and volleyball teams hit the road for mid-week competition, as the tennis team was in Phillipsburg for a quadrangular meet and volleyball went to Leoti for a quadrangular.
In Phillipsburg, the Lady Beaver tennis team finished second in the four-team event. Each singles player and doubles team placed second. Playing No. 1 Singles was Emma Price, No. 2 Singles Ximenana Ayala, No. 1 Doubles was Krystle Appel and Alma Martinez, and No. 2 Doubles was Christina and Melanie Tilton. The varsity will host the SCHS Inviational on Monday, September 21.
At Leoti, the Lady Beavers took the court for the second time in as many days, as they faced Goodland, Lakin and Wichita County in a quadrangular. Coming off a couple of losses to Great Bend and Smoky Valley Monday, Scott City went 1-2, picking up their first win of the year. The Lady Beavers lost to Goodland to start off the day 25-23, 25-14 and to Lakin in their second match 25-20, 25-10. Scott City bounced back and defeated Wichita County in their final match of the day 25-14, 25-13. The Lady Beavers are now 1-5 on the season, and will host a triangular with Colby and Hoxie on Thursday, beginning at 4 pm, and will be at the Liberal Invitational Saturday morning at 9:30.
