Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Even though Lyons came in with a 5-15 record Monday night into Scott City, the Lions only had an average margin of losing by eight points a game. Only twice did they lose by more than 20. Monday night would be their largest defeat of the year, as the Beavers showed no mercy on defense in a 57-23 win in Coach Glenn O’Neil’s final game at Scott Community High School.

The Beavers would score the first four points of the game, only to see Lyons match that and tie the game nearly midway through the opening quarter. Scott City scored the next 12 points of the game, holding the Lions scoreless for 3:26 of the opening quarter. The Beavers took an 18-6 lead after one period. Over the second and third quarter, Lyons (5-16) scored only seven points, with only two field goals. In those 16 minutes of play, Scott City had runs of eight, nine, and 11. They led 32-10 at the break and 50-13 after the third quarter. With a running clock in the final eight minutes, the Lions would win the quarter 10-7, as the Beavers led by as many as 37. The 23 points allowed by Scott City (16-5) matched the second fewest given up this year, tying their point total allowed at Goodland last Tuesday. Lyons tied their lowest point total of the year with 23 points, matching their point total at Hoisington February 12. The 57 points for the Beavers was the second most given up this year by Lyons.

Scott City was led by Dylan Hutchins with 20 points, which came in less than three full quarters. Bo Hess added eight. The Beavers had nine different players score. Lyons got 11 points from Tyler Edwards, who had seven straight in the fourth quarter. The Lions had only eight field goals in the game.
