Scott City tabs Gentry to lead Beaver Boys Basketball program
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Just days after wrapping up the 2015-16 basketball season in Hutchinson, Scott City wasted little time in naming the new head coach of the Beaver Basketball team. Brian Gentry, an assistant for the past nine seasons, has been named to the top spot, succeeding Glenn O’Neil, who wrapped up his 20th season as Scott City’s head coach.
Gentry takes over a program that has been one of the most successful teams in the state over the last decade. He has been a part of the coaching staff that has been to seven state tournaments, four state championships and two runner-up finishes. Gentry started as the C-Team coach and has been the Junior Varsity Coach the previous three seasons.
The Valley Falls Dragon alum played collegiately at Neosho County Community College and Fort Hays State University. Gentry also has been on the Scott City Football coaching staff the past four seasons. He also serves as the head boys golf coach.
Scott City will return at four players who have started, and two additional players who played in a reserve role, off an 18-6 team that qualified for their sixth straight state tournament appearance.
