Scott City Softball Swept by Hoisington

Hoisington, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In cold and cloudy conditions on Tuesday in Hoisington, the Scott City Lady Beaver Softball team was swept by the Cardinals in a doubleheader, 15-0 called in the fourth inning, and 12-0 in game two that was called in the middle of the fifth inning.

Game one saw Hoisington grab an early 4-0 lead after the first inning. Scott City was unable to get anyone on base in the second inning, and forced the Lady Cardinals into three ground ball outs. The third inning saw the first base runner for the Lady Beavers, as Brooke Dillinger reached on a one out walk. In the bottom of the inning, the game would be blown wide open. Hoisington scored nine runs and sent 13 to bat in the inning. It was a tough inning for Scott City, as they committed four errors that inning as well. The Lady Cardinals would end the game due to a 15 run after three inning run rule, as they tacked on two runs with one out in the bottom of the fourth, with the final score at 15-0. Kelsey Kuckelman took the loss for the Lady Beavers, giving up 10 hits. Scott City did not collect a hit in the game, and only had two reach base. Tana Hickel got the win for Hoisington, striking out five batters, and had two hits with four rbi for the game.

The finale saw Hoisington score in each of their four at bats. They hung two runs in the first and fourth innings, while scoring four in the second and third innings. Scott City was more active at the plate in the second game, as they collected three hits in five at bats. Their first hit came in the second inning on an Amanda Kough lead-off single. Kelsey Kuckelman and Jody Gunther also had hits in the fifth inning. The Lady Beavers were able to get a runner to third base in the second, fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to bring them home. Nicole Latta took the loss in game two, as she gave up 10 hits and struck out two, while walking two batters.

Scott City (0-4) will continue on the road on Friday, facing Liberal, while Hoisington (4-0) travels to Great Bend on Thursday.
