Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Tuesday’s doubleheader with Holcomb and Scott City saw a pair of teams with plenty of unknowns. With only two games under their belts, and only one senior combined on the field, the youthful teams played a pair of well-contested games in a battle of 2-0 teams. Scott City would pick up the sweep, as they pulled away for a 10-3 victory in game one, but squeaked out a 4-3 win over the Lady Longhorns in the finale.

Scott City 10, Holcomb 3, Game 1
The first game of the afternoon would be a tight one early, but the Lady Beavers would pull way in the late stages. Holcomb scored the first run in the top of the first on an Emma Cornelson run after a dropped third strike, and Scott City responded with a run to tie the game after Amber Latta scored on a passed ball. The Lady Longhorns would plate two in the top of the second, as Bella Lopez scored on a passed ball, and Emily Dryden would score on an error to put them up 3-1. That would be the score until the bottom of the fourth, when the Lady Beavers would tie the game, thanks to a Malorie Cupp RBI double that scored Makayla Miller, and a PJ Suppes RBI groundout scoring Melany Duff. Scott City would take the lead for good in the fifth inning, highlighted by a Miller two-run double, and capped off by a Cupp RBI single. Tori Ford would come up with an RBI single in the sixth inning that scored Latta, and Miller’s third hit of the game would drive in the final run of the game with an RBI single to make the score 10-3, which turned out to be the final.

Cheyenne Cramer went seven innings in the circle for the win, giving up three runs, one earned, on six hits with eight strikeouts. Makayla Miller had three hits and drove in three runs, and Malorie Cupp had two hits with two RBI. Korryn Johnson took the loss for Holcomb, allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 12 hits, and recorded six strikeouts. Emma Cornelson and Ryleigh McVey each had two hits for Holcomb, and Rian Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.

Scott City responded in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run by Tori Ford. The Lady Beavers would take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third, as Melany Duff’s single would score Ford. Scott City would retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth, as Aubrey Dwyre scored on an error to put the Lady Beavers up 4-3.
