After a scoreless first inning, Colby was the first team to score in game two. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Lady Eagles would take advantage of an error and plate two batters. Colby would rally in a big way in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs on six hits. Amber McDonald’s RBI triple gave the Lady Eagles the lead for good, as they went up 7-6 at that point. Colby would score two more runs to make it 9-6. Scott City got a run in their last at bat, as Krystal Appel drove in Orr with no one out. Unfortunately for the Lady Beavers, a line drive double play took turned the inning around and a flyout ended their comeback efforts, and their 14-game win streak came to an end. Scott City 4, Colby 1, Game 2
The finale of the day went only 64 minutes, as the Lady Beavers scored all the runs they needed to win the game in the first inning. An Amanda Kough RBI triple scored Krystal Appel to lead 1-0. Also on the same play, Kough scored on a throw that was misplayed to make it 2-0. Colby picked up their lone run in the fourth inning to cut their deficit to 2-1, as Elizabeth Koel reached on an error that scored Amber McDonald. The Lady Beavers got their two-run lead back in the bottom of the frame, when Jordan Miller scored on a two-out error, as Aspyn Nix reached. Scott City added an insurance run in the sixth, when Nix drove in Nancy Wiebe to make it 4-1. Colby had at least one hit in five of the seven innings, but the Lady Beaver defense made many routine plays. Nicole Latta threw only 61 pitches in seven innings to pick up the win. She gave up six hits and one run, and did not record a strikeout or a walk. Nancy Wiebe had two hits in the second game, as Amanda Kough and Aspyn Nix drove in a run each. Desi Schippers threw 84 pitches in six innings and took the loss. She surrendered four runs on five hits and had three strikeouts. Amber McDonald had two hits and a run scored for the Lady Eagles.
After the doubleheader, Scott City is 15-3 overall and finished with a 7-3 GWAC record. They will play at Southwestern Heights on Thursday. The games at Southwestern Heights will not count toward regional seeding, which will take place Wednesday. The Lady Beavers are projected to be the second seed in a seven-team regional. Colby is now 13-5 on the year, and has wrapped up their regular season, as they also finished 7-3 in GWAC play. The Lady Eagles will more than likely be the top seed in the regional they host next Tuesday.
