Johnson, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver softball team made the trip on Thursday afternoon to face Stanton County, and their trip ended up being a relatively short doubleheader. Playing in their second doubleheader in three days, the day couldn’t have gone any better, as the Lady Beavers won both games in run-rule fashion, taking the first one 10-0 in five innings and won in three innings 16-0.

While the runs weren’t coming as fast early on in the first game, they were able to close out with plenty. After leading 1-0 heading into the third inning, they added four in the top half, and doubled their run total with a five-run fifth inning to make it 10-0. Macie Price had two hits and drove in two runs to help lead Scott City. Lyndi Rumford had a two-run home run for the Lady Beavers, and Kally Kough also drove in two runs in the game. Kaitlyn Roberts went all five innings, giving up four hits with a strikeout and a walk on just 51 pitches.

Game two started out big for Scott City, scoring 11 first inning runs, and added five more in the second inning. Despite the scoreless third inning, Stanton County was held scoreless, as the Lady Beavers completed the doubleheader sweep shutout 16-0. Bailey Latta went 4-4 at the plate and drove in three runs, Macie Price went 3-4 with four RBI, and Kaitlyn Roberts and Gabby Martinez had two hits and drove in two runs each. Latta and Price each had one triple. Lyndi Rumford struck out three and allowed just one hit in three innings of work. Rumford needed only 35 pitches to record nine outs. On offense, she had a home run, her second of the day.

After Thursday, Scott City is now 12-2 on the season, as they will face Hugoton on Friday in a key GWAC doubleheader. Hugoton is 13-3 on the season, and 4-2 in league play. The Lady Beavers are lead the Lady Eagles by one game in the conference standings with a 5-1 record, and lead Colby & Holcomb by one full game in the GWAC, as they both have 5-3 records. Stanton County is 4-14 on the season and will wrap up their season at home vs Spearville on Tuesday.
