Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was about as dominant as Scott City has been all year. Yes, the Lady Beavers were heavily favored against Hugoton, but not being outside for six days could been a hinder on their efforts. Scott City showed their dominance, winning a pair of run-rule games against the Lady Eagles, winning the first game 11-1 in five innings, and completed their third straight sweep with a 15-0 win in four innings in the finale.

Scott City 11, Hugoton 1, Game 1 (4 Innings)
Hugoton scored the first run of the day, and their lead wouldn’t last for long. They led 1-0 through a half an inning, taking advantage of a lead-off walk, and an error. Scott City would bounce back with a pair of three-run innings in the first and second, taking a 6-1 lead after two innings. Following a scoreless third, The Lady Beavers would pour it on with a four-run fourth to lead 10-1, sending eight to bat in the inning. In the fifth, the game would end on a Macie Price RBI groundout, that scored Karen Hermosillo from third to give them the 11-1 win. Kaitlyn Roberts went all five innings, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts and only one walk. Bailey Hatta had three hits and scored three times, while Roberts had two hits. Scott City had seven hits in hits with six being singles and one a double. Meaghan McClure went 3 1/3 innings for Hugoton and took the loss. She gave up 10 runs on seven hits and had four strikeouts. Britta Beesley had two of their four hits in the game, as the Lady Eagles committed five errors.

Scott City 15, Hugoton 0, Game 2, (4 Innings)
While it took a little bit for Scott City to blow the game open, it took little time for Kaitlyn Roberts to begin her dominance. Roberts worked around one error in her four innings in the circle for a no-hitter. As for the Lady Beaver offense, they scored in all four innings at bat. They plated two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. In the third, that’s when Scott City put the game away for good. The Lady Beavers would score eight times on five hits, and sent 12 to bat in the inning to take a 12-0 lead through three innings. In the fourth inning with the bases loaded and no one out, Bailey Latta singled that scored Karen Hermosillo from third to end the game 15-0. Roberts had five strikeouts in the second game, and retired 12 of the 13 batters she faced. The only time the Lady Eagles reached base was on a two-out error in the first inning. Krystal Appel, Bailey Latta, and Gabby Martinez had two-hit games for Scott City, as the Lady Beavers had nine hits in the game. Meaghan McClure took the loss in the second game, allowing nine runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings pitched.

After Friday, Scott City is 12-4 overall, and 6-2 in GWAC play, while Hugoton drops to 2-12 overall, 1-7 in league play. After Holcomb’s 13-9 win over Goodland on Friday in a resumed game from last Friday, the Lady Beavers are in first in the league standings, ahead of both Goodland and Holcomb, who have concluded GWAC play at 7-3. Ulysses enters with a 4-2 conference play. Scott City and Ulysses will face off Saturday afternoon at 4 in a makeup game from Tuesday. Hugoton will host Ulysses on Tuesday to wrap up their regular season.
