Colby, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Dalton Buehler kicked off his senior season with a solid performance in Abilene in week one with 181 yards and three rushing scores. He one-upped his performance with 224 rushing yards on only nine carries, all in the first half, as the Scott City Beavers won their 30th consecutive regular season game with a 47-7 win over the Colby Eagles at Colby’s Dennen Field.

Buehler scored his first touchdown of the night on Scott City’s first offensive play on a 58-yard run with 10:16 left in the opening quarter. Brett O’Neil’s extra point made it 7-0. On Colby’s ensuing drive, Michael McEachern intercepted Colby quarterback Zane Winger at the Eagle 15, and took it to the end zone, and O’Neil’s PAT pushed the score to 14-0 with 8:59 in the opening period. Colby’s lone score of the night came on a special teams fumble recovery. Treck Keck picked up the snap that went over McEachern’s head and returned it 20 yards for a Colby touchdown with 4:32 left in the first quarter. Todd Kane’s extra point kick cut the Beavers deficit to 14-7. About 90 seconds later, it was Buehler scoring for the second time with a 39-yard scamper to paydirt. Another Brett O’Neil extra point made it 21-7. The Beavers scored one more time in the opening quarter with 1:12 remaining, on a 27-yard pass play from Brett O’Neil to Tyler Hess. O’Neil made it 28-7 after one period.

Scott City didn’t get on the board until the 4:20 mark before recess when Buehler ran in his third score of the half. The 19-yard run and an O’Neil PAT raised the score to 35-7 Beavers. Forty-three seconds later, Buehler scored for the fourth and final time of the night on a 62-yard run. The point-after attempt by Irving Reyes failed, and it was 41-7 in favor of Scott City at the break.

Only one score occurred in the second half. Brenner Wells found the end zone with 9:35 remaining on a 10-yard run. Reyes’ extra point failed, making the score 47-7. After the score, continuous clock was put into effect, and both teams substituted many reserves for the remainder of the game.

Brett O’Neil went 7-10 for 95 yards and one touchdown pass. Drew Kite was the leading receiver with three receptions for 50 yards.

Scott City (2-0, 1-0 GWAC) will have their season home opener Friday against a 2-0 Holcomb Longhorn squad, who defeated Hugoton 49-26. Colby (1-1, 0-1) hits the road to take on the Ulysses Tigers. Ulysses dropped a 28-20 game to Great Bend at home.
