Scott City runners compete at state cross country

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City cross country team wrapped up their season on Saturday at the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet held at Rim Rock Farm just outside of Lawrence. 

Two of the runners would wrap up their careers, and all have qualified at least two seasons.

For the girls, Piper Wasinger wrapped up her career finishing in 25th place, with a time of 21:17.8. She was a two-time state qualifier, and a member of the 2018 state championship team. 

Three of the top four teams came from the Norton regional. Norton won the team title with 75 points, while Southeast of Saline was second with 93 points and Southwestern Heights was third with 96 points. Beloit came in fourth with 110 points. 

On the boys side, Eric Frances qualified for state three straight years, and closed out his high school career with a personal best of 16:51.6, placing seventh. Jaxson Kough in his second state meet just missed out on a top 20 finish, placing 21st with a time of 17:30.8.

Eight of the top 10 runners came from the Norton regional, as did three of the top five teams. Southeast of Saline won the boys title with 35 points, Silver Lake was second with 44 and Norton finished third with 117 points. Lakin placed fifth with 141 points.
