Scott City returns home to face Beloit in a big district game

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–For the first time in four games, Scott City gets to play at home. With three games remaining on the schedule, the Beavers will have two of their games at home, with all being key games in district play. Tonight, the Beloit Trojans come to Darner Field in a 7 pm kickoff.

Beloit is 3-2 on the season, as they bounced back with a 46-12 win at home against Goodland on Friday night. The Trojans led 30-6 at the break, before opening the game up with a 16-6 run in the second half for the win. Beloit rushed for 295 and passed for 74 yards in the win. They are led by senior quarterback Hudson Gray, who has thrown for over 500 yards and five touchdowns, and has rushed for over 300 yards. Grant Arasmith is the leading rusher, just under 500 yards and six touchdowns, while Vincent Palen has three receiving touchdowns and over 330 receiving yards. Beloit averages 26 points per game and 330 yards of offense, with 228 on the ground. They give up an average of 226 yards per game, with 136 through the air and 17 points a game.

Scott City is 5-0, following a 41-0 win at Russell last Friday night. The Beavers scored four straight times from late in the second quarter to the beginning of of the fourth quarter to blow the game open. Scott City limited Russell to 45 yards of offense, while gaining 470 of their own. They are led this year by junior quarterback Harrison King, who has thrown for over 400 yards, and Cale Goodman, who has rushed for six touchdowns and nearly 500 yards. Hunter Yager has four touchdowns and has over 350 yards on the ground and over 150 receiving. Scott City averages 380 yards per game with nearly 300 rushing, while putting up 30 points a game. Defensively, the Beavers have given up just under 100 yards per game, and only two points a contest. 

Scott City leads the all-time series 3-2. The Beavers have won two straight, all last year. They won 55-12 at Beloit in the regular season on October 4, and on November 2 in the second round of the playoffs, won 34-7. Beloit’s last win in the series was in November of 2013, when they won 36-13 over the Beavers in Scott City in the sub-state round of the Class 3A Playoffs.

It’s homecoming tonight at Darner Field, with pregame ceremonies starting up at 6:30. King candidates are Cale Goodman, Sam Irwin, and Hunter Yager. Queen candidates are Shelby Patton, Camilla Rodriguez and Piper Wasinger.
