Scott City plays host to Hugoton in key district battle
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Tonight is the second half of the regular season, and two schools that are off to big starts meet up at Darner Field in Scott City, as the Beavers play host to the Hugoton Eagles in a key Class 3A, District 8 game.
Hugoton is off to their best start since 2009, entering tonight’s contest at 4-0, following a 47-6 win over the Colby Eagles last Friday night in their district opener. The Eagles have soared through the first four games, as they have scored 48 points per contest, while allowing just nine points per game. They have averaged 371 yards of offense, while giving up 123 through the first four games. Hugoton revamped their offense from last year, now running the Pistol Flexbone offense, led by junior Isaac Martin and seniors Adam Mendoza and Santiago Macias.
Scott City avenged their lone loss of the season with a 28-14 win over the TMP-Marian Monarchs last Friday night in Hays. The Beavers never trailed, despite being tied twice in the game. Scott City’s defense did not surrender a first down, while shutting down the Monarchs at minus-22 yards of total offense. The Beavers rushed for a season-high 219 yards and had a season-best 342 yards of offense. Through four games, the Beavers have average 30 points and 235 yards of offense, while allowing 11 points and less than 100 yards of offense.
Scott City has won 10 straight in the series, with the last meeting coming in 2019 in a 14-0 Beaver win.
Kickoff is at 7 pm for homecoming. Pregame begins at 6:30 on Mix 94.5 KSKL and on westernkansasnews.com/mix94.
