Scott City looks to get one step closer to playoffs vs Goodland
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–For the first time in three weeks, Scott City returns home. In fact, they will have their last two regular season games at home, as the Goodland Cowboys come to town in a 7 pm kickoff at Darner Field.
Goodland enters tonight on a two-game winning streak, after a 22-8 win over the Concordia Panthers last Friday night at Cowboy Stadium. After a scoreless first quarter, the Cowboys led 6-0 at the break, and 14-8 after three quarters, en route to a 3-4 record. They rolled up a season-best 493 yards in the win. Goodland also had a win two weeks ago at Ulysses, a team they haven’t defeated in over 10 years. The Cowboys are dealing with a depth issue, and will be without a significant amount of starters tonight, due to disciplinary actions.
Scott City remains red hot, fresh off their fifth straight win in a 42-12 road win at Colby last Friday night. The win assured the Beavers their 30th straight non-losing season. Colby held the ball for nearly 16 minutes in the first half, as both teams only had three possessions. Scott City would score on six of their first seven possessions in the game, leading 7-0 after the first quarter, 14-6 at the break and 28-6 after three quarters. The duo of Wyatt Hayes and Jarret Jurgens rushed for over 100 yards apiece, becoming the first duo in 22 games to accomplish that feat. Scott City would go for 466 yards in the win.
Both teams are 1-0 in 4A, DII, District 7. Scott City leads the series 34-11, and has won the last 12 games, including a 42-14 win last year. Goodland’s last win in the series was October 30, 2003, when they defeated the Beavers 42-6.
