Scott City hosts Smoky Valley for Military Appreciation Night
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)—For the first time ever, Scott City and Smoky Valley will meet up on the gridiron. Tonight at Darner Field in Scott City, the two squads will meet up in Class 3A, District 6 play in a 7 pm kickoff. It is also Military Appreciation Night.
Smoky Valley enters with a 2-3 record overall, and 1-1 in district play, following a 21-20 double overtime thrilling win at Goodland last Friday night. The Vikings led 14-6, when Goodland tied the game with under two minutes left. After the teams went scoreless in the first overtime, Smoky Valley scored first, and the Cowboys answered back on their first play to pull to within one, but missed the two-point conversion. The Vikings are 0-3 at home, and are 2-0 on the road. They average 238 yards and 12 points per contest while giving up 330 yards and 30 points a contest.
Scott City has won two straight, after they shut out the Russell Broncos 20-0 last Friday night to improve to 3-2 on the year and 2-0 in district play. The Beavers scored on their first two possessions of the game, and scored on their opening drive of the second half for their scores. Scott City has been able to pick up the run game over the past two weeks, averaging around 250 yards per game over the past two games. They have also averaged just over 300 yards of offense and 19 points through their first five games, while allowing under 200 yards and 12 points a game.
This is the first time the teams have met up, but they have been close to meeting up on five separate occasions, from 1992-2018.
Admission is free for all retired and active service members tonight, as part of the Third Annual Military Appreciation Night.
