Dodge City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Shawnee Mission South Raiders raided Dodge City over the weekend and took home the 70th Dodge City Tournament of Champions title with their 52-32 win over Wichita North Saturday night. Scott City held off a Dodge City comeback for the third place trophy with a 60-51 win. Derby won the fourth place game with a 64-42 thumping of Newton and Wichita South started off the final day of competition with a 55-49 victory over Buhler.

The third place game featured two local teams in their first meeting since the 2011 TOC Championship game. Despite two ties early on the game, Scott City lead the entire way, leading 19-8 after the first quarter, and built up a 15-point lead on a pair of occasions in the first half. The Red Demons trailed 32-21 at the break. Over the second and third quarters, the closest Dodge City could get was nine points. Going into the fourth quarter, the Beavers 45-33, only to see the Red Demons make one final push. Dodge City did storm back, and got back to within 54-49, but Scott City would score six of the final eight points of the game to secure a third place finish. The Beavers had a game-high 21 points from Drew Kite, and Brett O’Neil chipped in 15. Shaphan Gross scored 18 for the Red Demons, and Matt Goedeken added 13.

Shawnee Mission South and Wichita North would both get off to slow starts in the championship game. After being tied at seven after the first quarter, the Raiders would outscore the Redskins 10-2 in the second quarter to lead at the break 17-9. Shawnee Mission South would add to their lead in the second half and gradually pull away. Wichita North was held to 27% shooting for the game, and were led in scoring by Tarius Williams with 10. Two Raiders were in double figures, led by Josh Pedersen with 16 and Devin Newsome with 10.

In the fist game of the day, the Wichita South Titans were able to pull away in the second half, leading by around a 10 point margin for most of it, and held on to win 55-49 over the Buhler Crusaders.

Derby raced out to a 13-0 lead after the first quarter on Newton in the fourth place game, only to see the Railers rally to cut the deficit to five. That would be the closest the game would get the rest of the way, as the Panthers pulled away en route to a 64-42 victory. Derby led 56-27 at one point of the final quarter, as they shot 59% from the field for the game. The Panthers were led in scoring by Tyler Chambers and Josiah Ray with 13 points, while Dylan Hunte added 11. Newton did not have anyone in double figures, but were led by Austin Krogmeier with nine.
