Scott City, Kan. (westernkansanews.com)–The Scott City Beavers will begin their three-game road trip tonight, as they begin district play against the Goodland Cowboys. Both teams have seen opposite results to begin the season, as the Beavers enter with a 2-0 record, while the Cowboys are o-2.

It wasn’t easy for Scott City, who was shutout for the first time in 46 games in a first half last Friday night, as they rallied for a 14-3 win over Holcomb at Darner Field. The Beavers trailed 3-0 at the break, and 33 seconds into the second half, scored on a 40-yard Cale Goodman run, and capped their scoring off with a three-yard Parker Gooden Run. Despite the low point total for a second straight game, Scott City put up 301 rushing yards and 320 yards of offense, as Goodman had 32 carries for 170 yards and a touchdown. The Beaver defense was solid yet again, allowing no second half first downs, and only 117 yards of offense to the Longhorns. Scott City won their second straight in the series, and their 16th consecutive GWAC game.

Goodland was in the ball game with Ulysses at the break, trailing 14-6, but fell 49-12 in their home opener last Friday night. The Cowboys coughed the ball up four times in the loss, including a second half interception return for a touchdown by the Tigers. Goodland has been led by junior quarterback Leytun Cure, who has thrown for 313 yards and two touchdowns. They are averaging 170 yards of offense a contest, with 155 through the air, while giving up only 285 yards per game, with 234 on the ground.

Scott City leads the all-time series 36-11, including a 61-0 win at home last season. The Beavers have also won 15 consecutive in the series. Goodland’s last win was in Scott City in 2003, when they won 42-6. The Cowboys have not won against the Beavers at home since 1995.

Kickoff from Cowboy Stadium is at 7 pm, with a 6:30 pregame on Mix 94.5. You can also listen online at westernkansasnews.com/mix94, on the TuneIn App or on the KSKL App.
