Scott City heads to Ulysses to face the Tigers
Ulysses, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two longtime rivals will renew their rivalry tonight in Ulysses, as the Tigers play host to the Scott City Beavers in a 7 pm kickoff at Maxwell Field.
Scott City enters with a 2-1 record, following a 29-7 win over the Hoisington Cardinals last Friday night. The Beavers led 22-0 at the break before both teams traded scores in the second half. Scott City put up a season-best 438 yards, with 179 through the air. Through the first three games, they are averaging 364 yards of offense and 26 points, while allowing 16 points and 252 yards of offense. Camden Vulgamore has thrown for two touchdowns and has rushed for two more, as he nears 500 passing yards for the season. Alex Tarango has a touchdown reception and 113 receiving yards, and Jackson Rumford has 190 receiving yards. Defensively, Oscar Mendez leads Scott City with 29 tackles.
Ulysses has struggled this season, as they are 0-3 on the year. At Holcomb, the Tigers fell 42-16 in a game that saw them score offensively and defensively. The offense is averaging seven points and 138 yards of offense, with 83 coming through the air. Freshman quarterback Tyce Perez has 250 passing yards and a touchdown. Joel Guaderrama has 140 rushing yards on the season and is the teams leading tackler with 17. Defensively, Ulysses is allowing 39 points and nearly 400 yards per contest, with 225 coming on the ground.
This will be meeting 75 in the series, with Scott City holding a 43-30-1 advantage. In 2021, the Beavers won in Ulysses 36-27 for their eighth straight win in the series. The Tigers last won in the series in 2013, winning 25-6 on September 27 of that year.
