Scott City girls tennis wins Hoisington Invite, 4th at Garden City

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It’s been a busy few days for the Scott City girls tennis team, as they had two meets over a three-day stretch. Saturday, they were in the Garden City Invitational, where they placed fourth out of 10 teams. On Monday, they went to the Hoisington Invitational, and picked up a first place finish. The Hoisington meet was rescheduled from earlier in the month.

At Garden City, the host school Garden City would win the meet with 81 points, while Colby was second with 74 and Dodge City came in third with 72. Scott City was fourth with 60 points. All the singles and doubles teams were put into the same bracket, similar to postseason. At Singles, Malorie Cupp placed fourth and Laia Mur came in 12th place. As for the doubles teams, Rhiley Stoppel/Madison Westergard finished in fifth place, and Sadie Hermosillo/Bella Myers placed ninth.

On Monday at Hoisington, it was a good day for the Lady Beavers as they won the meet with 24 points, while Osborne/St. John, Hoisington and Greeley County all had 12 points. The No.1 Doubles team of Sadie Hermosillo/Bella Myers, the No. 2 Doubles team of Rhiley Stoppel/Madison Westergard and No. 2 Singles player Laia Mur all finished in first place, and Malorie Cupp at No. 1 Singles placed second.

Scott City will compete at the Ellsworth Invitational this Thursday, and play in Scott City for the first-ever GWAC Invitational on Monday, October 5, hosted by Colby.
