Scott City girls tennis wins GWAC title

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Five GWAC schools made their way to Scott City on Monday for the Great West Activities Conference meet, hosted by Goodland. As the teams have their final tune up for regional play later in the week, the competition was solid across the board.

In the end, Scott City would edge Ulysses for the GWAC title. The Lady Beavers had 47 points, while the Lady Tigers had 43 points. Colby and Goodland tied for third.

Winning the Singles division was Clarissa Sianuqui from Ulysses, and Doubles was taken by Scott City’s Kaylee Felker/Finley Edwards, who defeated teammates Ella Frank/Marisa Alvarado in the finals. Sianuqui was named the GWAC Girls Tennis Player of the Year. The top two placers in Single and Doubles earned All-League honors.

Colby, Goodland, Scott City and Ulysses will head to the Class 4A, McPherson Regional on Saturday, while Cimarron will be at the Class 3-2-1A Regional at Ashland on Friday and Saturday.
