Scott City girls tennis places 9th at state
Prairie Village, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver tennis team wrapped up their season over the weekend at the Class 3-2-1A State Tennis meet at the Harmon Park Tennis Complex in Prairie Village.
Host school Kansas City Christian won the team title with 40 points, followed by Central Plains with 37 points, and taking third was Conway Springs with 27 points. Scott City had 11 points in ninth.
The Lady Beavers placed one doubles team. Sophomores Sadie Hermosillo/Bella Myers placed ninth on Saturday. They would start their tournament on Friday with a two-set win, before falling in the round of 16 in two sets. On the consolation side, they would pick up a two wins, to advance to Saturday. They started Saturday off with a loss, and won two straight to take home ninth place. In their second to last match, they were down 7-1 before coming back to win 9-8.
Senior Abbie LeBeau’s bid to place fell one match short, as she dropped her first match of the day, but battle back to win her second match of the day, and fell one match short of picking up a top 12 placing.
Also competing in doubles were seniors Cynthia Gonzalez/Lanae Haupt. They dropped their first match of the day, before fighting off elimination in their first consolation match, and would fall in the final match, falling short of playing on Saturday.
