Scott City girls state champs, Hugoton boys runner up at 3A state cross country meet
Lawrence, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Entering Saturday’s Class 3A meet at Rim Rock Farm, the Scott City Lady Beaver cross country team knew they had the possibility of being in the mix for a team title. That they were and had plenty of room to spare. Scott City took home their first-ever cross country championship on the girls side, and the first girls state title since the 1994 Class 4A Girls Track & Field Championship.
For the Lady Beavers, they had won all but one meet this year they ran in. And that was the race at Rim Rock Farm in September. Scott City won by 30 points over runner-up TMP Marian, who had 89 points, and Clay Center had 106 points to finish in third. All three teams came from the Southeast of Saline Regional last Saturday. Cimarron would finish eighth as a team and Hugoton came in ninth.
The Hugoton boys, who won their regional last weekend at Lake Afton, worked their way into another trophy, as they were able to take home the second place trophy in Class 3A on the boys side. Southeast of Saline ran away with 83 points, while the Eagles had 118 points and Smoky Valley came in third with 123 points.
