Scott City Girls Lose Heartbreaker in Double Overtime
Colby, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a heartbreaking loss for the Scott City Lady Beavers Thursday afternoon in the Colby Community Building in the opening round of the 28th Annual Paul Wintz/Tom Bowen Orange & Black Classic. The Lady Beavers built up a 20-point first half lead, only to see the Liberal Lady Redskins rally to force overtime, and win with a pair of Jai Chapman free throws with two seconds remaining in double overtime to give the Lady Redskins a 59-58 victory.
Janessa Lowenthal set a career-high for Scott City (1-7) with 25 points, and grabbed 16 rebounds. Bailey Nickel also finished with a double-double, tabbing 12 points and 10 rebounds. Liberal (4-6) was led by Chapman’s career-high 29 points.
Scott City faces Hugoton in the Consolation Semi-Finals tonight at 6, while Liberal takes on Palmer Ridge, Colorado at 3 pm on the championship side. The Lady Eagles fell to Palmer Ridge 46-33 Thursday night, and defeated Scott City 58-30 January 4.
