Scott City girls cross country wins Hugoton Invitational, boys third

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Coming off a good early season run at Wamego last Saturday, the Scott City cross country teams took to the paths at the Hugoton Invitational on Saturday. Running against mainly schools from Class 5A-1A in the region, the Beavers fared well, as the girls team took their second team title in three meets, while the boys finished third in a tough field.

The Scott City girls team continued their consistency this year through three meets, out-running Liberal and Hugoton for the top spot as a team. Scott City finished with 37 points, followed by Liberal with 45 and Hugoton had 79. Makaela Stevens once again was the top Lady Beaver finisher, taking home second place with a time of 20:55.18. Dulce Ayala was seventh overall (21:07.82), followed by Megan Vance in ninth (21:22.81), Trella Davis 10th (21:23.84), Olivia Prieto 16th (22:06.41); Kodi Rogers 44th (25:21.01) and Aly Tarango 49th (25:56.22).

On the boys side, Jack Thomas won his third meet of the season with a time of 16:19.50, winning by nine seconds. Conner LeBeau finished in fourth with of a time of 17:10.61, followed by Robert Apodaca in 28th (18:58.27), Austin Rios in 31st (19:12.35), and Angel Rodgriguez in 41st (19:49.84). Scott City was shorthanded, missing two additional varsity runners who are out with injuries. Hugoton won the boys side of the meet with 40 points, followed by Liberal with 53 and the Beavers with 79.

Scott City will run this coming Saturday morning at the Stanton County Invitational.
