Scott City girls cross country regional champs; boys runner up
Cimarron, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Going into Saturday’s Class 3A Regional in Cimarron, Scott City knew they had a great chance to qualify both teams to state. How they placed remained to be seen. For a second straight year, the Beavers will qualify both teams to the 3A State meet on Saturday in Lawrence, as the girls team repeated as regional champions, while the boys finished in second place. No other area team qualified for state.
In the girls race, Scott City sophomore Makaela Stevens paced the Lady Beavers to their second straight regional title, finishing in second place, and cut around 20 seconds off her previous best. Scott City edged both Norton and TMP Marian for the top spot. Hutchinson Trinity junior Celia Biel won the meet easily with a time of 19:44.06. Stevens had a time of 20:26.41.
On the boys side, Jess Drohman’s run put him as the top area runner, by placing second with a time of 17:42.41. TMP’s Andrew Hess was the regional champion with a time of 17:11.12, as that bolted the Monarchs to the top spot for the regional team title, as Scott City was second and Sterling was in a distant third.
All qualifiers will run on Saturday, October 31 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence. The boys will run at 10:45 am, and the girls will take the course at 1 pm.
