Scott City girls 2nd, boys 3rd at 3A State Meet; Thomas state champion

Lawrence, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–After finishing 2nd on both the boys and girls side at the Ellsworth Regional, the Scott City cross country teams felt like that their best was yet to come. Saturday at the Class 3A State Cross Country meet at Rim Rock Farm, that feeling came to fruition. The Beavers took home not one, but two team trophies, as the girls team had their best finish in school history with a second place finish, while the boys wrapped up their season strong with a third place finish.

Individually, Scott City had a combined thee medalists in the top 20. On the girls side, Makaela Stevens closed out a fine career with a fifth place finish, and Dulce Ayala finished in 18th. On the boys side, Jack Thomas closed out his junior campaign undefeated with an individual state championship, and a new school record with a time of 16:04.

For other area individuals, Lakin and Cimarron placed one runner in the top 20 on the girls side. Lakin’s Sara White finished sixth and Cimarron’s Courtney Clinesmith was seventh. Cimarron’s girls finished sixth as a team.
