Scott City Fourth at 3-2-1A State Wrestling; Jurgens State Champion
Hays, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Norton Bluejays claimed the 2013 Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Norton won their third state title in the last four years, and their sixth in the last 10 seasons. Hoxie finished second and Plainville captured third. Scott City, the defending state champion, finished fourth as a team with all four qualifiers placing. James Jurgens claimed the state championship at 120 pounds, Alex Kough was third at 126 pounds, Warren Kropp finished fifth at 160 pounds and Michael McEachern came in fourth place at 285 pounds. Leoti-Wichita County had one state placer. Dylon Niswonger placed sixth for the Indians 106 pounds. Cimarron also had one medalist. Aidan Shaughnessy was sixth at 170 pounds. Sublette qualified three, but came away with a placer. Holcomb, Lakin and South Gray each qualified two wrestlers for state, but came up empty handed in medalists.
