Scott City football sets 2016-17 schedule
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Since September 25, Scott City officially knew they were going to have a whole new schedule due to a move in classification. The Beavers will be out of Class 3A in the 2016-17 football seasons for the first time since 2005, and found out from the Kansas State High School Activities Association in Salina how their district would set up in the 2016 and 2017 football seasons. Overall, they will be facing teams from five different leagues, including the GWAC, in the next two seasons.
Scott City will be in Class 4A, Division II, and play in District 7 with two GWAC foes Colby and Goodland. Also in the mix is Concordia. With the districts set, three non-league opponents were needed to fill the schedule. Entering Scott City’s schedule for the 2016 and 2017 football seasons will be Cimarron, Hays and Wellington.
The Beavers will open up the 2016 season at home against Hays High, who they haven’t played since 2003. This will be the fourth meeting all time in the series, with Hays leading 2-1. It will also be the first time Scott City will face a WAC school, since playing Garden City in 2011, when they beat the Buffaloes 30-3. Cimarron will play Scott City for the next two years, as both teams face off in week nine this year, and will also close out district play on October 29 at Cimarron. For Wellington, a playoff rival of Scott City, will be an opponent for the Beavers for the first time since 2002, when the Crusaders defeated Scott City 7-0 in the Sub-State Championship game in Class 4A. Wellington went on to win state that year, and have a 3-2 series advantage all time over the Beavers.
With two GWAC schools in Scott City’s district schedule, Scott City plays Holcomb, Hugoton and Ulysses in weeks 2-5. It’s the first time the Beavers will have face Colby in district play since 2003 and Goodland since 2009. Scott City has never faced Concordia, and the Panthers will be the first NCKL opponent since defeating Abilene 40-13 in 2013.
