Scott City cross country teams 3rd at Hugoton
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City cross country teams headed south on Saturday morning to the Hugoton Invitational in their third meet of the season. Both teams would end up in third place overall, facing their stiffest competition of the year.
On the boys side, Liberal won the meet with 65 points, while Stanton County had 68 and Scott City was right behind with 73 points. Eric Frances won his third meet of the season, with a time of 18:04, while Jaxson Kough came in fourth with a time of 18:24. Just outside the top 10 was Roberto Apodaco in 11th (18:54), while Freddy Castillo finished in 35th (20:36), Josh Kasselman was 37th (20:41) and Eric Shapland placed 45th (20:55). Anthony Wolfe was unable to finish due to an injury.
For the girls, Gruver, TX won the meet with 46 points, edging Stanton County who had 48 and Scott City finished with 68 points. Megan Vance led the Lady Beavers with a third place finish with a time of 21:29, and Piper Wasinger was in the top 10 with a seventh place finish in a time of 21:54. Clare Hawkins was 12th (22:39), Kairae Berry came in 20th (23:46), Claire Rumford placed 44th (26:47), Alivia Noll finished in 45th (26:48) and right behind her was Breana McPherson in 46th (27:26).
Scott City will run at Rim Rock Farm outside of Lawrence on Saturday. That is also the same course as the Class 3A State Cross Country meet, scheduled for November 2.
