Scott City cross country sweeps regional titles in Lakin
Lakin, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–After falling a few points short of qualifying as a team last season, the Scott City cross country teams entered Saturday’s Class 3A Regional at Lakin with that in the back of their minds. For both the boys and girls teams, they wouldn’t let history repeat itself. The Scott City boys would edge Lakin for the regional title, while the girls squad defeated Cimarron to qualify their teams for the Class 3A State meet Saturday, October 31, in Wamego.
On the girls side, Scott City would finish with 41 points, while Cimarron took the final team qualifying spot with 54 points, and Southwestern Heights was third with 73. The Beaver boys team would win by three points over Lakin for the top spot, while Cheney was third with 96 points. This year, the number of regionals in Class 3A was expanded to six, with the top two teams in each regional qualifying for state.
