Scott City cross country sweeps Goodland Invitational, girls tennis 4th at Hays
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a good start for the Scott City cross country teams on Thursday at the Goodland Invitational to open their season. Both the boys and girls teams won their divisions by double digits. The girls tennis team finished fourth at the Hays Invitational in their second meet of the season.
At Goodland, the girls cross country team dominated the day, scoring 10 points, which is the lowest score possible for a team. Ulysses was second with 42. The Lady Beavers went 1-5 at the top, as Makaela Stevens won the meet with a time of 21:45.31, followed by Dulce Ayala (22:27.61), Megan Vance (22:57.58), Trella Davis (23:22.47) and Olivia Prieto Finished fifth with a time of 23:34.14. Kodi Rogers placed 14th with a time of 25:39.79 and Kylee Logan was 26th with a time of 30:24.01.
For the boys, it was a 12-point win over Ulysses for the team title. Scott City had 35, compared to 47 for Ulysses. Jack Thomas won the meet easily with a time of 16:21.13, winning by nearly 90 seconds. Conner LeBeau was fourth with a time of 18:11.35, Robert Apodaca was 10th (19:37.49), Theron Tucker 11th (19:39.27) and Austin Rios was 12th (19:43.59). Angel Rodriguez finished 24th (21:09.12) and Miles Haire finished in 36 with a time of 22:39.10.
Scott City will run at Wamego next Saturday.
As for the girls tennis team, they finished fourth on Thursday at the Hays Invitational. Hays won their meet with 46 points, followed by Victoria with 42 and Russell was third with 28 points. Scott City also had 28 points, but lost on a tiebreaker. The No. 1 Singles player Abbie LeBeau finished fourth, No. 2 Singles player Cynthia Gonzalez placed fourth. Both the No. 1 Doubles team of Emily Glenn/Brenda Aguirre and the No. 2 Doubles team of Dallie Metheny/Lanae Haupt placed third.
The Scott City girls tennis team will be at the Hoisington Invitational on Tuesday and at Ulysses next Thursday.
