Scott City Cross Country sweeps Goodland, girls golf third at Hugoton
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Beaver cross country and girls golf teams opened their seasons on Thursday, as cross country went to Goodland, while girls golf was in Hugoton.
For cross country, it was a sweep of the team title. The boys nearly had a perfect score, as they finished with 16 points, while Syracuse was second with 67. Bryndan Bailey led the way, winning the meet with a time of 18:38.5. Ivan Armendariz was fourth with a time of 19:35.5, Efren Tarango was in fifth, running in a time of 19:36.4, and Cody Vance was right behind in sixth in a time of 19:45.8. Dylan Duff was ninth with a time of 19:59.3, Logan Stoppel 10th (20:00.2) and Aaron Armendariz was 12 (20:32.4). On the girls side, the Lady Beavers edged out a good Oakley squad. Scott City had 35, while Oakley had 43 points. Clare Hawkins led the way with a fourth place finish in a time of 22:56.2, and right behind her in fifth was Brinlie Stevens, running a time of 23:20.8. Hailey Shapland was 11th (25:08.2), Kairae Berry 15th (27:25.0), Jordyn Kough 20th (29:59.2), Tania Dominguez 23rd (30:44.4) and Macy Brown was 28th (32:53.9). Scott City will run at the Hesston Invitational next Thursday.
It was a good start to the season for the girls golf team, as they placed third at Hugoton on Thursday. Leading the way for the Lady Beavers was Tori Ford, who finished in eighth place with a score of 53, Hannah Faurot was 12th with a score of 55, Shelby Lisenby was 13th, also shooting a 55. Emma Wheeler recorded a nine-hole score of 59, Alivia Noll a 61 and Brylie Bennett a 64. Scott City will be at Goodland on Tuesday.
