Scott City cross country poised for another good run

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–While practices officially started on Monday for the Scott City cross country team, the preparation started for many in the summer.

Around 24 runners comprise of the 2019 squad, with 13 girls and 11 boys. Kevin Reese returns as the head coach and Alex Fox the assistant coach.

On the girls side, the Lady Beavers return four of their top five runners from a team that delivered their first team state championship in 2018. Clare Hawkins returns as the top runner after placing sixth as a freshman, while Megan Vance was 18th and Piper Wasinger was just outside of the top 20. Samantha Aguilar and Kairae Berry also return on the varsity side.

For the boys, Eric Frances looks to lead a team that just missed qualifying for state as a team last year. Frances finished 15th and Jaxson Kough had a solid state meet last year. Much like the girls team for this year, the top four will be solid for the Beavers.

This year, Scott City will get to host one cross country meet. They will host the GWAC meet on October 17.
