Scott City cross country is seeing a youth movement

crosscountry

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The 2018 version of the Scott City cross country team will be one that is full of newcomers. This year’s Beavers team will be full of youth for the first time in a while, as 19 members comprise of this year’s squad. Seven boys and 12 girls are set to make up of the team, that begins competition in two weeks.

While there are a lot of new faces on the team, there are also some returners that are coming off of state runs last year. The Lady Beavers finished second in Class 3A, led by Dulce Ayala’s 18th place performance a year ago, while Theron Tucker is the top returning runner on the boys side, coming in 40th at state, helping the boys team to a third place finish at state. Graduation hit the team hard, losing three girls and two boys, while another one is out due to injury. Jack Thomas, who was the individual state champion from last year, is out for the cross country season, after having surgery earlier this summer.

One thing that Scott City doesn’t have to worry about this year is what classification they’ll be in. With the classification realignment, the Beavers will remain in Class 3A. Kevin Reese returns as the head coach, while Alex Fox is the assistant coach.
