Scott City cross country has good showing in Wamego, girls tennis third in Ulysses

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–With the fall sports season moving along, the Scott City girls tennis and cross country teams competed well over the last few days. 

On Thursday, September 8, the Lady Beaver tennis squad went to Ulysses. While taking part of their varsity squad, the team finished third. Jennie Erven place second in No. 1 Doubles, while placing third at No. 2 singles was Judy Gutierrez, No. 1 Doubles team of Karlee Logan and Emily Glenn, and the No. 2 Doubles team of Brenda Aguirre and Dallie Matheny. Colby won the meet, and Liberal finished second. Scott City will send their varsity to the Phillipsburg meet on Tuesday.

Saturday at Wamego, the Scott City Cross country teams finished in the top five. For the boys, it was a fifth place finish with 190 points. Circle won the meet with 88 points, while Wamego was second with 95 and Hugoton finished third with 12o points. Jack Thomas was the highest placer for the Beavers, placing third (16:54.2). Also running were Conner LeBeau placing 29th (18:32.2), Austin Rios 42nd (18:50.0), Drew Duff 63rd (19:23.8), Theron Tucker 66th (19:28.7) and Angel Rodriguez 86th (20:01.5). 

On the girls side, they finished in fourth place with 131 points. Circle won easily with 46 points, while Basehor-Linwood was second with 111 points and Baldwin finished third with 119 points. Makaela Stevens took home fourth place (20:54.4), Dulce Ayala was 24th (22:16.4), Olivia Prieto 27th (22:20.1), Trella Davis 29th (22:24.0), Kodi Rogers 91st (25:52.5) and Samantha Aguilar was 97th (26:27.2) 

The cross country team will run next in Hugoton on Saturday.
