Scott City cross country coach Reese resigns

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Over the past decade-plus, the Scott City Cross Country teams have enjoyed success on both the boys and girls side. From their 2008 surprise for the Class 3A boys title, to the 2018 girls Class 3A championship, the consistency was strong in the program. For the first time in 14 years, there will be a new head coach for the Beavers. 

Kevin Reese had his resignation accepted at Monday’s USD 466 Board of Education meeting. Reese not only was the head coach for 13 seasons for cross country, but also served on the track staff for the past 12 seasons, primarily working with the pole vault and distance events. He also taught computer technology and business at Scott Community High School.

His cross country teams achieved success from start to finish. There were the two state championships in 2008 for the boys and the girls in 2018. In 2015, both the boys and girls teams would qualify for state together for the first time in school history, and they also repeated that in 2017. The 2019 teams swept the GWAC, as the girls team won the league four times in the past six seasons, and the boys won their first league title in the GWAC this past season. 

During his time as an assistant track, Scott City qualified a boys 4×800 relay team every season, and had at least one individual runner in the 800, 1600 or 3200 meter run on the boys or girls side every season. In 2019, the Beavers placed four pole vaulters, with the boys placing first, third and fourth, and also had a sixth place finish in the girls pole vault. 

Reese and his wife, Jodi, will be moving to Lake View, Iowa, which is her home town.
