Scott City boys were 1st, girls 2nd, in Cheney

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City track teams continued their solid seasons on Friday at the Vern Ferguson Invitational in Cheney, with some of the nicest weather so far this season.

Boys
It was their second straight first place finish. The Beaver boys finished with 130 points, while Cheney was second with 86 points and Kingman was third with 82 points in the 14-team field.

Marshall Faurot helped lead the charge with two wins. He took home first place in the Pole Vault going 14 feet, and won the 110m High Hurdles with a time of 14.82. He tied for third in the High Jump at 6-2, and third in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 40.99 The relays also took home top finishes. The 4×100 team of Brandon Winderlin, Nick Nowak, Wyatt Hayes and Jordan Horn ran a 44.66, the 4×400 relay team of Adrian Ruelas, Hayes, Kaden Wren and Jarret Jurgens won with a time of 3:29.08, and the 4×800 relay team of Hayes, Conner LeBeau, Wren and Ruelas won with a season best of 8:14.97.

Girls
The girls had another good outing finishing second as a team. Cheney won the meet with 112 points, while Scott City finished with 86 and Garden Plain was third with 84 points.

Emily Smith had a big day finishing third in the High Jump with a clearance of 5-foot, third in the 300M Hurdles with a time of 48.88, and was fifth in the 100M High Hurdles with a time of 17.59. She was also part of the winning 4×400 Relay team that won the meet with a time of 4:14.06, which was a season-best. Other members on the team were Dulce Ayala, Madison Shapland, and Emily Weathers.
