Great Bend, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On a rare Saturday night regular season doubleheader, the Scott City Beavers and Great Bend Panthers split games at Great Bend High School, as the Lady Panthers took the first game 50-23, while the Beaver boys win the finale 58-27.

Scott City got out to a good start in the girls game, racing out to a 4-0 lead and 6-4 with 5:23 left in the opening period. Unfortunately for the Lady Beavers, that would be their last lead of the game, and their last points of the first half. Coupled by foul trouble from Shanaya Hoeme and Kelly Wycoff in the first quarter, and Janessa Lowenthal in the second quarter, the Lady Panthers would score 34 straight points, and led 38-4 at halftime. Hoeme and Wycoff did not play from the mid to late first quarter until they started the second half. The foul trouble prompted Scott City to use at times their entire second five off the bench. Despite a rough first half, the Lady Beavers played much better in the second half, outscoring the Great Bend 17-12. The Lady Panthers took a 45-17 lead after three quarters, and scored the first two points in the fourth to prompt a running clock the rest of the game. Scott City (3-14) got a game-high 11 points from Kelly Wycoff, all in the second half. Despite the big victory, Great Bend (11-6) did not have anyone in double figures, led by Kaylie Doll’s nine points.
